Do your students love to tell jokes and solve riddles? Why not make maths a bit more fun and integrate riddles into your maths lessons?

This worksheet has been designed by our teacher team to provide your students with practice solving simple addition equations involving one- and two-digit numbers. The worksheet contains a riddle and 16 addition questions. After students have calculated the answers to each question, they must then use the number-letter key at the top of the page to reveal letters that will solve the riddle!

An answer key is included to make marking quick and painless.

If you’re looking for some suggestions as to how you might differentiate this simple addition worksheet for your learners, here are some ideas for you to consider:

• Support Learners with Manipulatives – Some students may benefit from manipulatives such as number lines, Base 10 blocks or counters to help them visualise the addition problems on the worksheet.
• Extend Learners with Word Problems – Encourage fast finishers or more confident learners to write real-world word problems to accompany a selection of the addition equations.
