A set of 129 'I can' statement cards focusing on numeracy for lower primary.

This set of ‘I can’ statement cards are designed to help students develop numeracy skills. The statements help students to reflect upon their work and become more responsible for their own learning.

Maths topics covered:

  • Number and Place Value
  • Fractions
  • Money
  • Patterns and Algebra
  • Units of Measurement
  • Shape
  • Location and Transformation
  • Data Representation and Interpretation
  • Chance.

Print, laminate and stick a small magnetic strip to the back so they can be stuck on to your classroom whiteboard. Blank cards are also included for personalised ‘I can’ statements.

How to use this resource:

  • Use the ‘I can’ statements as weekly classroom goals. Once the class has achieved their ‘I can’ statement, stick all of the statements on a display board as a reminder of the goals they have achieved.
  • Use the ‘I can’ statements during small group activities. Each group will have an ‘I can’ statement they are working towards.
  • Print out sets of the ‘I can’ statements to be used for individual students. Stick their own ‘I can’ statement on their desk to remind them of what they are working towards in numeracy.

Please note, this resource is a large file so may take a little longer to download.

Hi, I was wondering if these could be made as an editable resource so I can change some of the wording to suit the school I am currently at? We use proficiency scales at school for maths and these would be very helpful. Thank you.

Is it possible to have a range in the I can statements for counting forwards and backwards from 30 and recognising numbers. And a beyond 100 page. I am hoping to have complete sets for 10,20,30,50,100 and beyond 100. Thanks

Hi Rachel, we do have a collection of 'I can'statements for mathematics, including a middle years set that may help with what you are after. Here is the link - https://teachstart.co/1MJAgmP. These are great! Would it be possible to have them rearranged in a grid that would on A3 pieces of paper? I am a maths coordinator and would love to have these as take-homes for families to stick on their fridge so they know what their children are aiming for in the academic year. Would it also be possible to have these arranged by year group?

These are great! Just curious where the I can statements evolved from? Are they continuum based/ACARA?
