What Is Constitution Day and Why Is It a Holiday?
Constitution Day is a federal observance set aside every year to recognize the day the United States Constitution was signed. The Constitution was signed by delegates to the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia.
However, it was not official until June 21, 1788, when New Hampshire became the ninth of the 13 states to ratify the Constitution.
When Is Constitution Day 2025?
Constitution Day is celebrated every year on the same day — September 17 — because it's the day the US Constitution was signed.
Because September 17, 2025, falls on a Wednesday, most schools will be in session for your chance to celebrate in the classroom.
