Explore Two-Digit Place Value with a Dice Game

Are you looking for a hands-on game to help build your students’ understanding of two-digit place value? Teach Starter has you covered with this engaging, hands-on dice game! Perfect for young learners, this game makes learning about two-digit numbers fun, engaging and memorable.

This game contains a worksheet and two dice. One dice is a tens dice, the other is a units (ones) dice. Each dice features Base 10 blocks. Here’s how to play:

  1. Place the students into pairs or small groups. Provide each student with a worksheet and each group with a tens dice and a units dice.
  2. One student rolls the two dice. The students then work together to determine what two-digit number they have rolled by counting the number of tens and ones on each dice. Once they have identified the number rolled, it can be recorded on their worksheet.
  3. Students continue to take turns rolling and recording two-digit numbers until all spaces on the worksheet have been filled in.

As students roll and build more and more two-digit numbers, they will learn that the first digit represents the tens place while the second digit represents the ones place.
