Structured Writing Makes It Easy to Persuade!

Are you searching for a way to engage your students and get them involved and invested in their writing assignments? This year, we encourage you to try out our structured persuasive writing tasks to get your students thinking and writing with ease.

This resource is built around a persuasive letter-writing task where students imagine they have been chosen to represent their grade as a student leader. They must choose between two main issues and write a persuasive letter to their principal, convincing him or her that action should be taken on the topic they have chosen. The issues are:

  1. Computer games should/should not be used in the classroom.
  2. Weekends should be three days long.

Students brainstorm, plan and write a persuasive letter based on one of the above issues.

What’s Included?

This teaching resource includes:

  • an introduction and explanation of the task
  • a brainstorming mind map
  • a persuasive text planning template
  • a final draft letter writing template
