This Ten Frame Printable is Monster Fun!

Using ten frame activities in your classroom is a great way to teach many math concepts such as number recognition, subitizing, number composition and decomposition, place value, and addition and subtraction.

This ten frame printable includes five monster teeth worksheets and an answer key. Each worksheet features a different monster and has six problems. Students can add the correct number of teeth in many ways, so they can get creative!

Using Ten Frames in the Classroom

There are many ways to use ten frames to enhance math instruction. Here are a few ideas:

  • Counting: Students can fill in the frames with counters or objects. This helps students visualize and count quantities up to 10.
  • Subitizing: Flash students a filled-in ten frame and ask them to quickly identify the number shown without counting.
  • Number Bonds: Show students how numbers can be split into pairs that add to a given number. For example, demonstrate that 10 can be split into 7 and 3.
  • Comparing Numbers: Fill two frames with different numbers of counters and ask students to determine which frame has more or fewer counters.

Instructions:

To complete this ten frame activity, students:

  1. Look at the number in the upper right corner of the monster picture.
  2. Draw the same number of teeth in the ten frame in the monster’s mouth.
  3. Fast finishers can color their favorite monster!
